Who This Is For

What Is a Private GP Consultation?

Reviewed by Dr Faizal Secretary MRCGP  ·  GMC 7606534  ·  Last reviewed: April 2026

A GP consultation gives you direct access to a fully qualified, GMC-registered doctor without a waiting list. The clinical standard is identical to an NHS appointment because the doctors are trained in the same way and registered with the same bodies. What changes is the time, the access, and the continuity.

At My Private Clinic, every private GP consultation in Preston is with Dr Secretary personally. He reads your NHS records before you arrive. The appointment runs from 15 to 60 minutes, depending on what you need. And it ends with a written treatment plan, not a note to come back in a fortnight.

Private GP vs NHS GP

Private GP in Preston vs NHS GP

Both private and NHS GP services give you access to qualified, GMC-registered doctors. The difference is not the clinical standard of care. The difference is the time available, how quickly you can be seen, and whether you see the same doctor every visit. My Private Clinic is not a replacement for your NHS GP. It is an option for when the NHS cannot see you quickly enough, or when a concern deserves more time than ten minutes allows.

Common Questions

GP Consultations — FAQ

Do I need to de-register from my NHS GP?
No. We work entirely alongside the NHS. Keep your NHS GP — we're here for when you need to be seen sooner or need more time.
Can I get a same-day appointment?
Yes, subject to availability. Call before midday and we'll usually get you in the same day — Monday to Saturday when we run a full clinic from 9am to 8pm. Other days are by appointment.
Can I book a telephone or video appointment?
Yes. Telephone and video appointments are available for existing patients at £49 for 15 minutes. New patients are encouraged to attend in person for their first appointment.
What if I need to see a specialist?
The doctor will write a referral letter as part of your appointment — no extra charge. He has established relationships with private specialists across the North West.
Are treatment plans included?
The writing of your medical management plan is included. If medication is needed as part of your plan, Dr Secretary will arrange this during your appointment at no extra charge. You then take this to any UK pharmacy and pay only the dispensing cost there.
What conditions do you see?
All general medical conditions — acute illness, chronic condition reviews, infections, skin problems, joint pain, repeat treatments, second opinions and more.
